Bac Ninh is the smallest of the Vietnamese provinces. Although it is the smallest of all the provinces, it is home to a relatively large number of people (10). In the earlier days, there was a larger province called Ha Bac. With its population growing, Ha Bac was split into two provinces, Bac Ninh and Bac Giang (4). Bac Ninh borders Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hanoi (Which is now the capital of Vietnam), and Hung Yen (10). Dong Ho Village lies in Bac Ninh Province. This village is known as a center of production for the most well know traditional Vietnamese woodblock prints.
The art of Dong Ho painting decreased under French rule, but quickly revived after the liberation of Vietnam in 1954. French art has also influenced modern day vietnamese artwork.Chinese domination also caused Vietnamese artists to adopt learned chinese techniques, especially in their ceramics(5).
